Manuscript Submission Information

The 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting will be in Santa Barbara, CA, January 10-12, 2025.

All manuscripts requesting consideration for publication in American Surgeon must be submitted through the American Surgeon manuscript submission portal by 8:00 AM on January 10, 2025. FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS.

  3. IMPORTANT: Select paper type: Special Issue SCCACS paper. NOTE: IF YOU DO NOT SELECT SCCACS YOUR MANUSCRIPT WILL NOT BE GIVEN SPECIAL CONSIDERATION AND WILL GO INTO THE GENERAL POOL.
  4. Forward the confirmation email that you receive from American Surgeon for your submission to: kwoo@mednet.ucla.edu


Surgeon in Training Research Competition: Cash prizes will be awarded for the best paper(s) submitted by a resident/fellow accepted for a plenary presentation.

Rising Star Competition: A cash prize will be awarded for the best paper submitted and accepted for presentation by a medical student, undergraduate, and/or any other healthcare professional not at the attending/faculty level in any specialty.

Submission instructions for surgeon in training and rising star competitions:

  1. Upload ONE Word document, including the title page, abstract, manuscript, references, tables, figures and appendices to: https://uclahs.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1ziEnjKxMErvqMS by 5:00 pm PST December 20, 2024. Any manuscripts submitted after this time will NOT be considered for the competition.
  2. Adhere to the American Surgeon limits for word counts, references, tables, figures: https://journals.sagepub.com/author-instructions/ASU.

For fairness, any manuscripts NOT adhering to the limits will NOT be considered for the competition.

NOTE: Manuscripts that would also like to be considered for publication in American Surgeon must ALSO be submitted to the American Surgeon through the manuscript submission portal. See below. (Submission to American Surgeon is not mandatory)
